Anna Moers of the Birmingham Swim League and Markie Duffy of the Cincinnati Marlins have verbally committed to swim for the Georgia Southern University Eagles next season.
Last year, Moers was the Alabama state runner-up in the 50 freestyle (23.82) and the 100 backstroke (56.31). Here are her best times:
- 50 FR: 23.64
- 100 FR: 52.33
- 200 FR: 1:52.50
- 100 BK: 56.31
- 200 BK: 2:04.04
Duffy, a butterfly and distance freestyler, took 15th in the 500 free last season at Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Championships with a time of 5:12.17. She also got 16th in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.40, but she swam faster in prelims, clocking a 1:56.41. Her best times follow:
- 200 FR: 1:54.51
- 500 FR: 5:05.82
- 1650 FR: 18:00.74
- 100 FL: 58.96
- 200 FL: 2:11.95
Under head coach Nate Kellogg, the 2014-2015 Eagles finished third at Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Conference Championships. Moers should be able to find her way onto some relays; the 800 free relay splits last season ranged from 1:49.69 to 1:53.06, and top Eagles 200 swimmer Kylee Parsons will be graduating this year. She even has a chance at taking a coveted 400 medley spot. Her best time is .01 faster than the one Georgia Southern’s Christina Moran swam at CCSA Championships, and Moran will also be graduating this May.
As far as individual events, both girls should score some points at the conference level for the Eagle team. Last season at conference, Moers would have made consolation finals in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 200 back, while she would have taken eighth in the 100 back. Duffy would have made consols in the 500 free and 200 fly.
