ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia has announced spectator attendance polices for the fall 2020 swimming and diving slate at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
Due to social distancing measures involving the student-athletes, there will be no spectators allowed inside the natatorium for the dual meets against Florida (Oct. 30) and Auburn (Nov. 6), as well as the Georgia Invitational (Nov. 18-20).
The Florida and Auburn meets, as well as the majority of the Georgia Invitational, will be live streamed on SEC Network+.
These policies are in effect for the fall 2020 events, but will be reassessed prior to the three events held at Gabrielsen in 2021.
“We love having our fans at our meets and the energy they bring, but we also love being able to compete at the highest level,” said Tom Cousins Swimming & Diving Head Coach Jack Bauerle. “The most important matter at this time is ensuring the safest possible environment for competition. We look forward to welcoming our fans back in the near future.”
The University of Georgia Athletic Association and the Ramsey Center will work in accordance with local and national health guidelines, as well as the Southeastern Conference, to determine policies for the remainder of the Bulldogs’ season.

Let the Dawgs swim! I’ve been in the natatorium and I can assure you it can hold at least 100 people social distancing 6 feet apart!
This is asinine. I feel fairly certain that 50 parents can safely socially distance in the 2000 seat Gabrielsen Natatorium.
I’m sure they CAN, but WILL they?
Plus, once you start filling the natatorium with people, the whole “it’s fine just let all the kids get corona they won’t get sick” goes out the window.
And you’d have to hire staff to enforce social distancing.
I guess you could charge the parents for tickets to offset that, but then we’d complain about that.
Sometimes it’s just easier to…not. People are challenging, and don’t like following rules. We’ve done this to ourselves.
And it is being streamed!
Agree with you Dad…Sad that SEC Footsieball can put 25K people in stadium and SEC swimming allowed zero people in stands? Oh well…so it goes.
