Georgia Tech Men & Women Roll To Dominant Senior Day Wins Over Gardner-Webb

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving team capped off the weekend of competition with a victory over Gardner-Webb. The men beat Gardner-Webb 190-69 and the women defeated the Bulldogs 181-75. Tech diving conclude competition against Miami, Florida State and Auburn with the men’s and women’s platform events.

Today, the Jackets recognized their 2023 senior class. The 11 swim and dive seniors are McKenzie CampbellAbby CohenAtticus CohenKyrsten DavisImane El BarodiDaniel KerteszRuben LechugaDuda SeiferJonathan ShaheenBrooke Switzer and Carmen Woodruff.

In the women’s platform diving event, Anna Bradescu won with a Zone B qualifying score of 275 and Carmen Woodruff finished fifth with a score of 218.65. On the men’s side, Elijah Klier came in sixth with a Zone B qualifying score of 317.25.

The swimmers dominated their opponent as they swept 11 events, starting off with the men’s 1000 free. Mert Kilavuz (9:31.63) championed the event for the second time this weekend. Sean Santos placed second (9:32.47) and Caleb Blischke came in third (9:34.92).

The Jackets claimed the top three spots in women’s and men’s 200 free. Deniz Ertan won the women’s event (1:49.88) while Rei Kuramoto took second place (1:50.08) and Ari Sakellaris finished third (1:56.67). On the men’s side, Daniel Kertesz placed first (1:39.62), Charles Perks came in second (1:41.66) and Leandro Odorici placed third (1:42.55).

Tech also dominated the women’s 50 free and 100 free. Anna Hadjiloizou led the Jackets in the 50 free (23.36), Arianna Dirkzwager followed behind in second place (24.47) and Zora Ripkova placed third (24.52). Ripkova went on to win 100 free with a time of 52.48. She was joined by Abby Cohen (53.52) in second and Brooke Switzer in third place (53.79).

Tech has continued to experience success in the breaststroke events. The Jackets swept the men’s and women’s 100 breast along with the women’s 200 breast.

Antonio Romero championed the men’s 200 fly with a time of 1:49.12. Kilavuz placed second (1:49.89) and Hunter Foehner came in third place (1:53.87).

In the 200 backstroke, Kuramoto led the women (2:06.79) and Chris Richardson led the men (1:48.86) to commanding performances. Ertan (2:09.84) and Anne Deedy (2:12.94) followed behind Kuramoto with second and third-place finishes. On the men’s side, Romero took home second (1:54.37) and Saka finished third (1:54.50).
