AUBURN, Ala. – University of Georgia junior swimmer Abby McCulloh was named one of two co-winners of the 2024 Southeastern Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference Friday evening.
McCulloh is the 10th Bulldog and seventh Georgia woman to receive the honor and the first since Courtney Harnish was honored in 2021. Since the award was instituted in 2005, Georgia has won the most times of any SEC women’s swimming and diving program.
McCulloh, a junior from Lilburn, holds a 4.0 grade point average in journalism. This season, she has recorded the fastest time in the nation in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9.27.08) and the second-fastest time in the nation in the 1,650y freestyle (15.51.93) this season. In back-to-back meets, she set new Bauerle Pool records in the 1,000y freestyle, earning SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors for her performance against Florida State and Vanderbilt.
McCulloh ranks second in program history in 1,000y freestyle and fourth in the 1,650y freestyle. She has earned three CSCAA All-America honors, including for her fifth-place finish in the mile at the 2022 NCAA Championships. On Wednesday, she earned her second career SEC bronze medal, finishing third in the 500y freestyle after previously placing third in the mile in 2022.
McCulloh was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team and to consecutive CSCAA Scholar All-America First Teams. She has also been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of her first two seasons. She has been named to J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll in each semester of her collegiate career and has earned Presidential Scholars honors for 4.0 GPA in each semester, including the fall of 2023.
