ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia’s Hali Flickinger and James Guest earned awards from the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday based on their performances in the season-opening wins over North Carolina.
Flickinger, a senior from Spring Grove, Pa., was picked as the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week. Against the Tar Heels, she won the 200 freestyle in 1:46.65, the 200 butterfly in 1:56.85 and the 200 backstroke in 1:54.24 — all of which are the fastest times in the country thus far. Flickinger led the Lady Bulldogs as they extended their UGA all-sports record with their 95th straight win at home dating back to 1995 and she helped Georgia win its 14th consecutive season opener.
Guest, a native of Baie-d’Urfe, Montreal, was selected as the SEC Male Freshman of the Week. He won the 100 breaststroke in 55.6 and swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay that won in 1:27.88 against North Carolina. Guest also came in second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:01.22. Behind Guest, the Bulldogs won 13 of the 14 swimming events.
Georgia will return to action Oct. 30 at Florida in a long course meters meet.
