Germany was a major factor at the first two editions of the 2013 World Championships, but in 2011, they struggled to just two medals and one victory from Christian Diener with a new Meet Record in the boys’ 50 backstroke.
This 2013 roster will be without its biggest junior star Leonie Beck, but still will have plenty of big names.
That includes European Junior Champion in the 200 backstroke Sonnele Ozturk and her teammate Laura Riedemann, who earned bronze in all three backstroke events at the same meet.
Lisa Hopink is a medal candidate in the 200 IM (she was 2:16 for bronze at European Juniors) as well.
The star of the men’s team would be Yannick Lindberg, who has been 1:01.7 in the 100 meter and 2:13 in the 200 meter breaststroke. He’s the next generation of the impressive German men’s breaststroke group.

Carl Louis Schwarz (Potsdamer SV)
Poul Zellmann (SC Magdeburg)
Damian Wierling (SG Essen)
Alexander Kunert (SV Gelnhausen)
Marek Ulrich (SV Halle/Saale)
Hendrik Ulrich (SV Halle/Saale).
By the way, the one who swam 4:48 on the 400 IM wasn’t Höpink, it was Siebrecht, but she hasn’t been nominated. Demler swam 4:45 this year at 400 IM.
It surprises me that many big talents are missing (Beck, Hocke, Scholtissek, Schubert, Dietterle, Käthner, Massone, Hummel, Feldbinder), but it’s nice to see that Marek and Hendrik Ulrich will compete, although they were born in 1997. Marek is a big talent in 50 and 100 free and 50 to 200 back. Hendrik is best at 200 and 400 free. Öztürk, Riedemann, Höpink, Hüther and Klein are 1998. Wierling and Kunert are 1996. I also hoped that Johannes Hintze would be nominated, he’s 1999 but pretty impressive for his age, especially at 200 IM.
