Germany wraps 2014 Open Water Swimming Nationals

Germany is home to many great open water swimmers and the past week saw a monumental showing of German swimmers of all ages for the 2014 German national championships.   The German open water nationals include events for their elite, age group and masters swimmers.  Conditions were ideal in Hamburg for the 2014 event.

For the elite field, Thomas Lurz was champ in the 5K in 53:21.61 while Rob Muffels (54:05.94) and Andreas Waschburger (54:24.31) rounded out the top three on the men’s side.  For the women’s 5K, Patricia Lucia Wartenberg toped the podium with a time of 58:09.32.  Isabelle Harle (58:30.47) and Svenaj Zihsler (59:22.05) were second and third.

For the 10K men, Rob Muffels took top honors in 1:54:42.59 with Andreas Waschburger (1:54:43.98) and Christian Reichert (1:54:46.25) close behind for the second and third spots.   The women’s race was won by Isabelle Harle (2:01:35.97).  Finnia Wunram (2:01:40.10) and Patricia Lucia Wartenberg (2:01:56.08) rounded out the podium finishers.
