Markus Deibler was on hand, swimming next to Ryan Lochte in silver, in 2010 when Lochte broke the World Record in the 100 short course meter IM in 50.66.
On Sunday, he returned the favor by breaking Lochte’s record while Lochte swam on to bronze in 51.24. In between was Russia’s Vlad Morozov in 50.81, who most, including us, thought had the best chance at breaking the record in Doha.
The old record was a 50.71 done in Dubai in 2010.
Deibler hasn’t raced this event much very well since that silver medal in Doha, but he looked focused again earlier this year at German Nationals where he was a 51.81 – just off of the record.
I am going to win an Olympic Gold Medal one day!
