GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 1/21/2022

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Evan Pan-Wang, 12, Lakeside Aquatic Club (LAC-NT): Pan-Wang was on fire at the 2022 LAC Ice Breaker meet in early January, helping the Lakeside Aquatic Club set a pair of 11-12 NAG Records in the mixed 200 and 400 medley relay. Individually, Pan-Wang set lifetime bests in four events, including breaking into the top 100 all-time among 11-12 boys in the 50 back (26.26) and 100 back (55.96).

Avery Luedke, 14, Aquajets Swim Team (AQJT-MN): Luedke, 14, has hit new personal best times in eight different SCY events so far in 2022, including a standout 2:01.39 in the women’s 200 backstroke. That swim improved on her previous best of 2:01.93, set in December, and ranks 18th among 14-year-olds in the 2021-22 season.

Charlie Wang, 12, Lakeside Aquatic Club (LAC-NT): Wang joined Pan-Wang in helping LAC break those two mixed relay NAGs, recording a pair of blistering breaststroke relays legs. Individually, Wang hit four best times at the meet, and also came close in the 100 breast, where he clocked 1:02.61. His PB of 1:02.18, set in December, ranked 44th all-time among 11-12s.

Mena Boardman, 13, Portland Aquatic Club (PAC-OR): Boardman has reset eight PBs in January, highlighted by her 23.94 swim in the 50 freestyle. The swim marked the 13-year-old’s first time under 24 seconds, having gone 24.03 just one week earlier, and ranks her 10th among 13-year-old girls this season.

Gavin Tran, 13, Keystone Aquatics (KA-MA): The 13-year-old Tran reeled off best times in seven different events at the Keystone New Year’s Invitational Jan. 7-9, including some eye-opping times in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.20) and 200 breaststroke (2:08.71). The 200 breast time ranks first among 13-year-olds in the 2021-22 season, while the 100 breast time sits second.

William Carrico, 16, Phoenix Swimming (PHX-NE): Carrico hit his first Junior National cut in the LCM 200 breaststroke at the NOVA Winter Invitational on Jan. 16, dropping a big best time of 2:24.53. That marked a near 3.5-second best relative to his PB coming into the day, which was 2:27.96. He also went 2:25.77 in the prelims.
