In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.
Drew Eubanks, 14, The Dolphins Portland Swimming (TDPS-OR): Eubanks moved into 52nd all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group last month at the Kevin Perry Senior Invite, swimming a time of 57.24 in the 100 breaststroke. He neared that mark twice last weekend, clocking 57.40 in the prelims and then 57.33 in the final at the Oregon Senior Open, and added a new best time of 1:58.76 in the 200 IM.
Jiawen Xue, 12, Aquajets Swim Team (AQJT-MN): Xue came within 22 one-hundredths of the girls’ 11-12 National Age Group Record in the 50 backstroke (SCY) last weekend, posting a time of 25.87 to near Levenia Sim’s mark of 25.65. Competing at Minnesota’s 14&U Single Age State Championships, Xue established four other best times, including clocking 55.68 in the 100 back to move into a tie for fourth all-time in the 11-12 age group.
Ben Liang, 13, Nitro Swimming (NTRO-ST): Liang produced best times across seven different events at the COR Classic, headlined by a 52.02 in the 100 butterfly that ranks him second this season and tied for 45th all-time among 13-year-old boys. Liang also ranks third this season among 13-year-olds in the 200 free (1:44.01), fourth in the 200 back (1:55.05) and tied for fourth in the 200 IM (1:56.30).
Evan Pan-Wang, 13, Metroplex Aquatics (MTRO-NT): Battling head-to-head with Liang, Pan-Wang secured lifetime bests in all eight events he swam at the COR Classic, including a 52.65 in the 100 fly to rank tied for fourth among 13-year-old boys this season. His best swim of the meet, however, came in the 100 back, where Pan-Wang registered a time of 51.98 to rank 16th all-time among 13-year-olds and first this season.
Austin Chu, 12, CSP Tideriders (CSP-OZ): Chu cracked the top 50 in the boys’ 11-12 age group in the 200 backstroke last weekend, clocking 1:59.75 to take over 44th place all-time. The CSP Tiderider also neared making his way into the top 100 in the 200 breast, touching in 2:18.68.
Wilson York, 13, Lakeside Swim Team (LAK-KY): Lakeside’s York became the 13th-fastest 13-year-old American ever in the boys’ 100 breaststroke at the Speedo Music City Invite, blasting to a new best time of 58.49. He also swam a best of 2:08.21 in the 200 breast, good for 25th all-time among 13-year-olds, and he added PBs in the 200 back (1:59.02) and 200 fly (1:58.36).
