GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 2/3/2023

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Finnley Conklin, 16, Oregon Community Swim Club (OCSC-WI): After a successful freshman year of high school at Madison Edgewood in Wisconsin, Conklin has moved to Oregon High School for his second season and has already established numerous program records. The 16-year-old currently owns school records in the 100 breast (55.80), 200 free (1:44.76), 200 IM (1:57.23) and 500 free (4:52.72), with his 100 breast time ranking #1 in the state so far this season. Conklin, who also swims for the Oregon Community Swim Club, will contest the Badger West Conference meet this weekend.

Olivia Willemsen, 17, Westfield Area YMCA (WY-NJ): Willemsen set new Greater Middlesex Championship Records in the girls’ 50 free (23.69) and 100 free (51.66) at the conference meet last weekend while representing Piscataway High School, improving on her previous marks of 24.10 and 52.40 set last year. Both swims were also new best times for the 17-year-old, as she had previously been 23.92 in the 50 in December and 52.06 in the 100 in December 2021.

Ayden Tan, 10, DART Swimming (DART-SN): Tan established a new personal best time in the 50-yard back at DART Swimming’s dual meet with the Santa Clara Swim Club two weeks ago, clocking 29.21 to rank sixth among 10 and under swimmers in the U.S. this season. Tan also neared best times in the 100 free (56.12), 200 free (2:00.06), 50 breast (33.91), 50 fly (28.58) and 100 IM (1:03.70) at the meet.

Daniela Linares Danzos, 12, Crow County Sharks (CROW-PC): Linares Danzos hit new best times in the 100 back (58.04) and 200 IM (2:12.10) at the Pacific Zone 2 Championships, ranking her second and 12th, respectively, this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group. She also neared her best times in the 50 free and 100 free, having been as fast as 24.69/53.31 earlier this season which ranks her 13th and eighth in 2022-23.

Isaiah Silver, 12, Livermore Aqua Cowboys (LAC-PC): Silver notched notable best times in the 100 back (58.88) and 100 breast (1:06.29) at the Pacific Swimming Zone 2 Championships last month, both ranking in the top 30 this season among 11-12 boys. He also swam to a time of 2:07.94 in the 200 IM, just shy of his 18th-ranked 2:07.89 from earlier in January.

Elizabeth Eichbrecht, 14, Supernova Swim Team (NOVA-MI): Eichbrecht swam to a new lifetime best of 4:51.35 in the 500 free at the 2023 Fast and Furious meet last weekend in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., ranking her second in the girls’ 13-14 age group this season. Eichbrecht also recorded a new best of 59.50 in the 100 IM, and neared best times with strong swims in the 50 free (24.11), 100 free (52.09), 200 free (1:50.75) and 100 fly (57.05).
