Michael Andrew is on fire this week! After breaking the 200 IM national age group record twice yesterday and the 100 butterfly national age group record this morning, he dove in shortly after and broke Carsten Vissering‘s 100 breaststroke national age group record with a time of 52.50. That makes Andrew the second 15-16 year old in history to crack the 53 second barrier.
Carsten Vissering was the first swimmer in history to break 53 seconds in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.83 at the NCSA Jr National Championships in 2013.
Take a look at their comparative splits below:
Vissering – 2013
- 24.84
- 27.99
Andrew – 2015
- 24.56
- 27.94
While he will have a great race with Ryan Hoffer in the 100 butterfly tonight, he will be out in front by himself in the 100 breaststroke if he chooses to swim it. Andrew claimed the top seed by more than two seconds.
15 y/o Reece Whitley 52.56 at the NCAP Invite yesterday.
his last 25 was actually significantly slower than the other three. so if he can hold his speed until the end tonight theres a slim chance he breaks 52.
im very excited now:D
Always amazing to see Michael be so versatile but even more amazing to see him break records back to back.
I only wish he wouldn’t have gone pro so he could destroy some NCAA swimmers and rub USRPT in the face of the coaches that refuse to learn anything new.
