AMES, Iowa – The intrasquad meet marked the beginning of the 50th season in team history. Iowa State’s Cardinal and Gold teams faced off in their annual preseason meet, with the Gold squad pulling ahead with a score of 111-110.

Proving every point matters, the Gold team pulled off their first win since the 2015-16 season. Team Gold maintained a slim lead throughout the night with many dominant performances.

Freshman Trinity Gilbert began her Iowa State career with a win in the 200 IM, adding points for the Cardinal team.

Elynn Tan had a strong showing with multiple event wins. Her times of 23.79 in the 50 free and 57.17 in the 100 fly went as wins for the Cardinal team.

In the first diving break, freshman Jayna Misra claimed the win with a score of 109.20 on the three-meter, bringing the Gold team to a score of 52-40.

Emily Haan had a strong showing in the 100 back, with the lone score under a minute of 57.57.

On the distance side, Keely Soellner showed her endurance with wins in the 200 and 500 free.

Coming down to the last event of the night, the 200 free relay, the Gold team picked up the victory as the relay squad of Anna Andersen, Tan, Martha Haas and Gilbert touched first to solidify the win for Gold.

“Everybody who won did an outstanding job, but I was more pleased with our depth of our second and third place swimmers,” said head coach Duane Sorenson. “How you really win dual meets is on the second and third place wins.”
