The following is a press release courtesy of Oakland University:

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Freshman Holly Morren and sophomore Aleksander Danielewski were two-time individual winners as the Gold teams defeated the Black squads in the Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams’ annual intrasquad meet.

“This was a good opportunity to acclimate our newcomers to the college environment, and we had a number of our freshmen step up today,” Oakland head coach Pete Hovland said. “It was a great introduction to get everyone ready for two Horizon League opponents coming up in two weeks.”

Morren touched first in the 100 freestyle in 52.59 and also won the 50 freestyle in 24.72. Morren was one of four Oakland women’s freshmen to post individual victories: Mary Pilibosian won the 200 backstroke (2:10.97) and Arynn de Leeuw was victorious in the 500 free (5:18.40) for the Gold team, while Cassie Misiewicz was a two-time winner for the Black, winning the 1000 freestyle (10:42.15) and the 200 butterfly (2:09.31).

Danielewski won the 200 IM (1:59.37) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.80) to pace Gold team for the men. Also notching wins for the Gold team were Jorden Merrilees (200 free, 1:43.78), Mitch Alters (200 fly, 1:55.72), Andrew Binder (50 free, 21.76) and Seth Timmons (500 free, 4:49.50).

The Gold women also got an individual win from Patricia Aschan (200 IM, 2:11.06) and were victorious in both the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Registering victories for the men’s Black squad were Tuomas Kiviluoma (100 free, 47.66), Jacob Pearson (1000 free, 9:51.58) and John Schihl (200 breast, 2:10.78). Takara Martin (200 breast, 2:26.91) and Nikki Flynn (200 free, 1:59.21) captured wins for the women’s Black team.

“This meet is two weeks earlier than we usually swim to start the year, and it’s challenging to get up and race at this stage of our training,” Hovland said. “We didn’t have any expectations, but overall, we saw a lot of good things tonight.”

The Golden Grizzlies will begin the intercollegiate portion of the 2014-15 campaign Friday, Oct. 10 when Oakland travels to Wisconsin to face Horizon League foe Milwaukee.
