The 2022 Israeli national Short Course Championships kicked off this week, with Anastasia Gorbenko getting off to a quick start. On day one, 19-year-old Gorbenko fired off two national records, first in the women’s 200m back and then in the women’s 50m freestyle.
Gorbenko played it cool in the morning heats of the 2back, claiming the 2nd seed with a solid AM outing of 2:12.54. However, she took things to another level in the final, firing off a winning effort of 2:04.40 to claim the gold.
Gorbenko opened in 1:00.39 and closed in 1:04.01 to put up the fastest time of her career. Her result overtook her previous PB and Israeli national standard of 2:05.36 she logged during the 2021 International Swimming League (ISL) season.
The women’s 50m free also saw Gorbenko get a new national record and she accomplished the feat as lead-off on her Macabbi Kiryat Biyalik squad’s 4x50m free relay. Although the team ultimately placed 4th in the final, Gorbenko led off in a speedy 24.46. That split overtook her own previous Israeli standard of 24.53 she put on the books in August of 2020.
