Grabich Breaks 50 in 100 Free To Close Argentine Nationals

Federico Grabich went 49.96 to win the 100 freestyle, capping the final day of the 2016 Argentina Open National Championships.

Grabich’s time didn’t challenge his national record of 48.11, but did win the race by four tenths over 20-year-old Guido Buscaglia, who was 50.33.

After an Argentine record from Virginia Bardach on day 1, no national records fell on days 3 and 4, though there were some close shaves:

• In the men’s 1500 free, Martin Miguel Carrizo Yunges went 15:11.59, coming within 1.4 seconds of the national record set in 2013 by Martin Naidich. Yunges won the race by a dominating 53 seconds.
• A couple of nice swims came out of the women’s 200 breast. Julia Sebastian went 2:29.10, about two seconds off her national record, but good enough to hold off a touch fight from Macarena Ceballos. Ceballos was 2:29.60 for second place.
• In the men’s 100 fly, Marcos Barale was the winner, going 53.85.
