Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist Claim WAC Women’s Weekly Swim & Dive Awards

ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Paula Martinez Moreno and California Baptist’s Audrey Thordarson-Wehner have been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the week, for the competition week ending on Monday, Oct. 28.

Martinez Moreno, a junior, took her second swimmer of the week honor after finishing first in three butterfly events at a dual meet with Hawaii. She swam a 24.78 in the 50 butterfly, 53.47 in the 100 butterfly, and 2:01.39 in the 200 butterfly. Martinez Moreno’s times in the 100 and 200 butterfly are the best times in the WAC by nearly three whole seconds.

Thordarson-Wehner, a sophomore, also claimed her second weekly honor after winning all four diving events she partook in. At Pomona-Pitzer, Thordarson-Wehner won the 1-meter dive (289.50) and the 3-meter dive (304.65). Thordarson-Wehner improved her scores at Cal Tech/San Diego with 317.70 in the 3-meter as well as setting a program record score of 315.30 in the 1-meter dive.
