With the series of YMCA Swimming Festival meets having wrapped up in mid-April, final results from the five different competitions have been combined, with the Greater Somerset County YMCA boys and the Y-Spartaquatics girls coming out on top in the team race.

The virtual meet was put together by a group of YMCA teams from across the country after the National Championships were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In total, 119 teams and 1,232 athletes competed in the Y Swimming Festival. Including relay legs there were a total of 8,223 individual swims.

Girls Recap

Y-Spartaquatics won the girls’ team race by 50 points over Schroeder YMCA, with Annika McEnroe leading the charge with three individual overall wins.

McEnroe, 18, topped the combined field in the 200 breast (2:10.44), 200 fly (1:57.73) and 400 IM (4:13.11), with her 200 breast time lowering the YMCA National Age Group Record (15-18) of 2:10.79 previously held by Savannah Faulconer.

The other first-place finisher for Y-Spartaquatics was Jenna Bridges in the 1650 free (16:55.63).

Also winning multiple individual events was Greater Somerset YMCA’s Catherine Meisner in the 200 free (1:47.30) and 500 free (4:48.51), Champaign County YMCA’s Angela Coe in the 100 fly (53.00) and 200 IM (1:59.18), and Westfield YMCA’s Clare Logan in the 50 free (22.54) and 100 free (48.91).

• 200 Backstroke – Riley Trout (York YMCA), 1:57.31
• 100 Breaststroke – Tori Brostowitz (Schroeder YMCA), 1:00.94

Schroeder YMCA won three relays – 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley – while Champaign County topped the 400 free and Greater Somerset won the 800 free. Schroeder’s time of 1:38.99 in the 200 medley relay also broke the YMCA National Age Group Record.

Boys Recap

The overall team race turned out to be much closer for the boys, with Greater Somerset (428) edging out Schroeder (412) by just 16 points. They were the only teams to crack 300 points.

Greater Somerset picked up a combined six event wins from the formidable duo of Matt Fallon and Jack Alexy, as the two 18-year-olds put on a dominant display at the Voorhees, New Jersey meet.

Fallon claimed wins in the 100 breast (52.35), 200 breast (1:51.39), 200 IM (1:45.67) and 400 IM (3:44.76), with his 200 breast time falling just .01 off of Josh Matheny‘s 17-18 National Age Group Record. It’s also worth mentioning that he placed first in the 400 IM by over 10 seconds and was the only swimmer sub-2:00 in the 200 breast.

Alexy won the 100 free (42.63) and 200 free (1:35.52), resetting his lifetime best in the 100 while tying it in the 200.

Alexy’s 100 free, Fallon’s 200 breast and David Curtiss‘ 19.33 50 free were all new YMCA National Records in the 15-18 age group.

Greater Somerset picked up another victory from Trent Russano in the 200 fly (1:45.07).

The other swimmer to win multiple individual events was Schroeder’s Ziyad Saleem, who paced the field in the 100 back (46.99) and 200 back (1:42.36). Schroeder also had a win from Jackson Lustig in the 1650 free (15:33.19).

• 50 Freestyle – David Curtiss (Hamilton Area YMCA), 19.33
• 500 Freestyle – Quinn Cynor (Kishwaukee YMCA Dekalb County), 4:24.26
• 100 Butterfly – Thomas Heilman (Cavalier Aquatic YMCA), 47.35

In the relays, Schroeder YMCA almost pulled off the sweep, topping the 200 free, 400 free, 200 medley and 400 medley, but it was Greater Somerset pulling out the win in the 800 free relay. All four of Schroeder’s wins also broke the YMCA National Records.
