Greenwich Girls, Phillips Boys Win NE Prep School Titles

The girls of Greenwich Academy girls and Phillips Academy boys won runaway titles at the New England Prep School Championships.

Girls Meet

The Greenwich girls swept all freestyle events to pull off the dominating win. Quinn Scannell took the 200 free (1:48.01) and 500 free (4:55.66), setting a meet record in the former. Kate Hazlett handled the 50 free (23.16) and 100 free (49.95) with records in both events. Ashley Hu added a 1:04.08 breaststroke win for a new meet record as well.

Scannell joined with Christina Li, Borden Wahl and Hannah Subramaniam to win the 200 free relay in 1:37.15. And Scanell, Sophia Moore, Paula Scanlan and Hazlett completed the freestyle sweep with a 3:25.70 meet record win in the 400 free relay.

Greenwich also won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.16 with the team of Scanlan, Moore, Hu and Hazlett.

Hopkins School’s Erin Earley was the individual star of the meet outside of Greenwich. She won the 200 IM in 2:01.26, surviving a tough challenge from Suffield’s Sydney Winters and breaking a meet record. Earley also won the 100 back in 53.79.

Boys Meet

Despite only winning a single event, Phillips Academy topped the boys field by almost 90 points in a true showing of depth. Neil Simpson was the lone winner, going 1:52.36 to take home the 200 IM title by almost a second.

Suffield took the lion’s share of the individual titles. Max Miranda, Cameron Auchinachie and Brandon Liao all doubled up in titles with two dominating efforts.

Miranda won the 200 free in 1:40.04, then the 100 fly in 50.20. Auchinachie, meanwhile, went 20.58 to win the 50 free and 49.98 to take the 100 back. Liao won the 100 free in 45.63, then turned around to take the 100 breast in 57.01.

Those three combined with Matt Titterton to win the 200 medley relay in 1:33.62, with Auchinachie taking backstroke, Liao breast and Miranda fly. The same trio joined Cian Beaulieu to win the 400 free relay in 3:03.88.
