Grimm Posts Top 100 Breast Prelim On Day 2 Of PVS Champs

2021 PVS SC CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WAVE II (MEN)

Day 2 of the 2021 PVS SC Championships Series – Wave II meet in Manassas got underway this morning with the 100 breast, 400 IM, and 200 freestyle.

Men’s 100 Breast – Prelims

Top 8:

  1. Anthony Grimm – 54.51
  2. Jacob Frick – 54.80
  3. Aidan Grady – 55.67
  4. Colin McKenzie – 55.74
  5. Dylan Danaie – 55.91
  6. Dawson Truong – 56.19
  7. Aiken Do – 56.21
  8. Mac March – 56.42

In the 100 breast, Anthony Grimm posted the top time of the morning with a 54.51, narrowly edging out Jacob Frick‘s 54.80 for second. That wasn’t a best time for Grimm who has been as fast as a 52.51 back in 2019. Grimm’s season-best is a 53.84 which he swam in February 2021. Grimm will look to pick up another win tonight, adding to his 100 fly and 50 free victories on night 1.

Frick’s swim for second seed was a PB, improving upon his 55.72 from last month. Behind Frick, Aidan Grady swam a 55.67 for third seed while Colin McKenzie and Dylan Danaie weren’t too far off, hitting a 55.74 and 55.91, respectively.

Men’s 400 IM – Prelims

Top 8:

  1. Sam O’Brien – 3:55.16
  2. Andrew Blusiewicz – 3:59.28
  3. Adriano Arioti – 3:59.43
  4. Andrew Bolz – 4:00.47
  5. Simon Bermudez – 4:01.42
  6. Matthew Hartshorn – 4:01.69
  7. Nick Maranto – 4:02.03
  8. Jake Goldman – 4:05.01

In the 400 IM, Sam O’Brien delivered a 400 IM best time to win the event with a 3:55.16, lowering his time from a 3:58.87. O’Brien will go in as top seed tonight, ahead of Andrew Blusiewicz‘s 3:59.28 and Adriano Arioti‘s 3:59.43. It will shape up to be a solid race tonight as Blusiewicz has been as fast a 3:56.87, back in December 2020.

Behind the top three, a solid quartet of Bolz, Bermudez, Hartshorn, and Maranto was separated by less than two seconds, each with a shot at dipping under 4:00 tonight to vie for a spot on the podium.

Men’s 200 Free – Prelims

Top 8:

  1. Brett Feyerick – 1:38.84
  2. Landon Gentry – 1:40.38
  3. J.Y. Ewing – 1:40.53
  4. Michael Jiang – 1:40.53
  5. Ben Stankovich – 1:40.77
  6. Graham Evers – 1:41.23
  7. Matt van Deusen – 1:41.37
  8. Benjamin Huffman – 1:41.53

The top seed in the 200 freestyle tonight will be Brett Feyerick from NCAP with a morning swim of 1:38.84 to knock a few seconds off his 1:40.96 PB from two years ago. Teammate Landon Gentry trailed by a second and a half, posting a 1:40.38 for second seed while J.T. Ewing was a 1:40.53 for third seed. Gentry has been as fast as a 1:37.87 in the event while Ewing has been under 1:40 once with a 1:39.34 last month.

The only other top 8 finisher in this morning’s prelim who has been under 1:40 in the event is #7, Matt Van Deusen who’s been a 1:39.21 from back in December 2020.

The second night of finals is set to commence tonight at 6 PM Eastern.
