Gui Caribe Breaks Brazilian Junior Record with a 47.82 100 Free (Long Course)

2022 BRAZILIAN SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIPS

The penultimate night of racing at the 2022 Brazilian Summer Championships brought another gold several multi-winners, including Ana Vieira. After taking the women’s 100m breaststroke last night, 21-year-old Vieira topped the women’s 100m freestyle podium.

Stopping the clock in a mark of 55.69, the Pinheiro Olympic swimmer beat out Larissa Oliveira and Daynara Paula who made up the rest of the podium. Oliveira snagged silver in 56.37 while Paula rounded out the top 3 in 56.73.

The men’s 100m freestyle was a tight battle among the top 3 finishers who all got under the 50-second barrier.

Taking the gold was Victor Alcara who touched in 49.2, giving himself a small advantage over Luiz Melo who captured runner-up status in 49.69. Taking bronze was Mina Tenis Club’s Tiago Cintro who logged an evening effort of 49.87.

Of note, the fastest time of the day in the 100m freestyle actually came in the junior race, where Guilherme Caribe put up a new lifetime best of 47.82. Going out in 23.12 and bringing it home in 24.70, Caribe’s time notched a new Brazilian Junior Record.

Caribe is currently training at the University of Tennessee, where he is a freshman. He currently ranks 2nd in the NCAA in the 100 yard free behind only his sophomore teammate Jordan Crooks.
