Haley Anderson tells it like it was – insight behind the gold

This just in from Haley Anderson, the gold medalist in yesterday’s 5K open water swim in Barcelona. Haley’s proved that her silver medal performance in London wasn’t a fluke – she’s the real deal – but we already knew that. Haley’s just graduated from USC where she was piler in Coach Dave Salo’s program. Yesterday she took to the harbor in Barcelona and navigated the tight course with multiple turns in a manner that dominated the field. Yet, like the consummate team player that she is – much of her take on the day is very team focused (that’s a big component to all of Team USA’s success). So here’s how it yesterday played out for her.

The first day of competition is always exciting. We had a great race with some great results. The excitement was buzzing when we went through our typical pre-race routine of getting numbered and checked in and ready to race. In a blink of an eye the races were over and overall we had a pretty good day of some fun short races. Sunday was spent recovering and relaxing and of course some swimming. Just getting geared up to cheer on the men in the 10k tomorrow.
