Halsall and Carlin Up for Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Month

BothFran Halsall and Jazz Carlin have had fantastic results this summer, because of that fact they have both been nominated for Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Month.

Sky Sports could be seen as the United Kingdom’s version of ESPN.

Halsall had a very impressive showing at the Commonwealth Games collecting gold in both the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly, posting Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games records in both events. She also picked up silver in both the 4 x 100 freestyle and medley relays, but that was in July.

In August she won the 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke at the European Championships. She also took the bronze in both the 50 butterfly and women’s 4 x 100 medley relay.

She collected another gold as part of the British 4 x 100 mixed medley relay team that took the gold and set a new world record in the process.

Halsall is currently ranked first in the world in the 50 freestyle, second in the 50 butterfly and fifth in the 50 backstroke.

At the Commonwealth Games Carlin took gold in the 800 freestyle in a games and Welsh record time along with collecting a silver in the 400 freestyle.

She followed that up by having even greater success at the European Championships in Berlin where she won both the 400 and 800 freestyle. Her winning time in the 800 was both a championship and Welsh record, while her time in the 400 set a new Welsh mark.

She is currently ranked second in the world in both the 400 and 800 freestyle.

Every month a Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Month are voted on by Sky Sports viewership. The voting will close this Thursday evening. If you wish to put in a vote you can do so by clicking here.

It’s hard to choose between them, but great to see that two swimmers were nominated.
