Hamilton Swimming Adds Brogan Barr to Coaching Staff

Brogan Barr, previously an assistant men’s and women’s swim coach at Williams College, was recently selected to fill the same role at Hamilton College.

Barr coached at Williams during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. She helped the men’s and women’s teams to NESCAC championship titles in 2016 and 2017. The women finished in the top five twice at the NCAA Division III championship and the men ended up in the top 10 both seasons Barr was with the program. She coached more than 40 NCAA championship qualifiers and all-Americans, as well as 10 national champions. Williams swimmers broke a pair of Division III records and more than 20 program records under Barr’s guidance.

“We are excited to welcome Brogan to the Hamilton community,” Hamilton Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach John Geissinger, said. “Brogan’s experience working with high achieving student-athletes really stood out, and will allow her to seamlessly begin to assist in strengthening our team. I look forward to working with her in establishing Hamilton College as the premier destination for small-college swimming and diving.”

Barr was an aquatics specialist at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., during the summers of 2015 and 2016 when she interacted with Olympic-caliber athletes and coaches. She had been a USA Swimming club coach with Purple Valley Aquatics in Williamstown, Mass., since the fall of 2015 and has coached at swim camps at the University of Notre Dame and Bates College. She was an assistant at SUNY Potsdam in 2014-15 and led her own summer club teams in two Montana towns.

The Pueblo West, Colo., native graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a bachelor’s degree in biology and religion and a minor in coaching. She earned all-conference honors for finishing third in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2011 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Barr’s teams finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Division III championships all four years and Gustavus Adolphus’ seventh-place showing in 2014 is the best in program history.
