FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State swimming and diving team took down Mountain West foe San Jose State 203-94 on Senior Day at the Aquatics Center, on Saturday afternoon.

Fresno State finishes the regular season with an overall record of 5-2.

“I’m proud of the way the team bounced back from our loss last weekend,” head coach Jeanne Fleck said. “We took control early and the whole team supported the seniors on their day. We swam really well today, and that’s a great feeling going into the Mountain West Championship.”

The Bulldogs took the top spot in 12 out of 14 swimming events, and placed first on both diving boards. Senior Manuela Mendolicchio had a big day for the Bulldogs taking first in four events, including three individual events and one relay. Senior diver Irina Nikolaeva led the ‘Dogs on the boards, taking first place on the 1-meter and second place on the 3-meter.

Swimming Highlights:

•    In the 400 medley relay, Fresno State placed first (Clayson, Mendolicchio, Harbert, Cutler) with a time of 3:46.83 and third (Bartolome, Ridenour, Hutler, Guryeva) with a time of 3:57.11.

•    In the 1000 freestyle, Fresno State took the first three spots with Darina Khisiamova in first (10:17.17), Marissa Johnson in second (10:41.06) and Morgan Coddington in third place (10:44.83).

•    In the 200 freestyle, Fresno State’s Megan Bowen came in first with a time of 1:52.76.

•    In the 100 backstroke, Fresno State took two of the first three spots with Athena Clayson in first with a time of 56:38 and Emily Cutler in third with a time of 58.44.

•    In the 100 breaststroke, Fresno State took the first two spots with Manuela Mendolicchio in first with a time of 1:03.32 and Megan Ridenour in second with a time of 1:05.26.

•    In the 200 butterfly, Fresno State claimed the top three spots with Kimberly Harbert finishing first at 2:04.56, Khisiamova in second with a time of 2:06.50, and Mackenzie Hutler placing third with a time of 2:09.97.

•    In the 50 freestyle, Fresno State claimed the second and third place spots with Anna Moers finishing in second with a time of 23.98 and Tonya Guryeva placed third with a time of 24.62.

•    In the 200-yard backstroke, Fresno State’s Clayson finished first with a time of 2:01.42 and Cutler came in second with a time of 2:04.92.

•    In the 200 breaststroke, Mendolicchio logged a first place finish (2:14.07) followed by Lucy Davies in second (2:19.22) and Megan Ridenour in third (2:23.94).

•    In the 500 free, Fresno State finished in the top three spots with Khisiamova (5:00.42) in first, Eydis Kolbeinsdottir in second (5:06.70) and Maya Gulvady (5:12.12) in third.

•    In the 500 freestyle, Harbert finished in first place with a time of 56.47.

•    In the 200 IM, Mendolicchio recorded a first place finish with a time of 2:05.78.

•    In the 200 freestyle, Fresno State took second (Moers, Cutler, Bowen, Clayson) with a time of 1:35.56).
Diving Highlights:

•    On the 1-meter, Fresno State took the top two spots with Irina Nikolaeva in first with a score of  286.88 and Yuliya Tykha a in second with a score of 271.50.

•    On the 3-meter, Fresno State took the top two spots with Tykha in first (291.60) and Nikolaeva in second (282.53).
What’s Next – Fresno State will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete at the 2020 Mountain West Championship Feb. 19-22.

PRESS RELEASE – SAN JOSE STATE

FRESNO, Calif. – San Jose State women’s swimming and diving put a bow on their 2019-20 regular season with a dual meet against conference rival Fresno State on Saturday. The Spartans had two individual winners and claimed the 200 free relay, but ultimately fell in the dual meet by a final of 203-94.

SJSU swept the top three spots of the 100 freestyle. Gabby Heng led the way with a 51.83 followed by Antoinette Loya (52.21) and Katie McIntee (52.44). The Spartans also had the top finisher in the 50 free as Madelyn Sailors led the pack with a 23.93.

In the day’s final event, the 200 free relay “A” team of Loya, Heng, Sailors and McIntee won the race with a final of 1:34.21.

The Spartans have a couple weeks off before making the trip to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 2020 Mountain West Championships February 19-22.
