Hawaii Adds Summer Juniors Qualifier Alexa Ozment To Class of 2027

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alexa Ozment has announced that she has signed with the University of Hawaii for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. Ozment is wrapping up her senior year at Bayside High School, located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Ozment shared her commitment on Instagram:

Ozment, who swims year-round with the Tide Swim Team, specializes in backstroke. She owns a Summer Junior Nationals qualifying time in the 100 backstroke, having swam a 54.23 at Winter Juniors this past December. Over the course of this short course season, Ozment’s 100 back has come down by nearly a second, while her 200 backstroke has improved by over three seconds.

Ozment’s sprint freestyle events have followed a similar trajectory. At the Virginia Swimming Senior Championship in early March, Ozment clocked a best time by a second and a half in the 100 free to post a 51.29. She also swam a 1:52.24 in the 200 free, which is over ten seconds faster than she was when she entered the season.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.74
  • 100 free – 51.29
  • 200 free – 1:52.24
  • 100 back – 54.23
  • 200 back – 2:02.42
  • 200 IM – 2:03.38

Hawaii is coming off a highly successful season under first-year head coach Mike Stephens. They successfully defended their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) title and sent a relay to NCAAs for the first time in 18 years, led by fifth year Laticia Transom. Transom individually qualified for the 50,100 and 200 freestyle, and ended up taking 7th in the 100 on the final day of the meet.

Ozment is poised to make an immediate impact for Hawaii when she arrives, as her personal best in the 100 back would have placed 2nd at this year’s MPSF Championships, with only Transom ahead of her (51.88). Dorottya Dobos and Anna Friedrich also swam sub-55 100 backstrokes last season, with Dobos being as fast as 54.53, and Friedrich swimming a 54.95. Dobos will train with with Ozment for two years, while Transom and Friedrich will have graduated.

Ozment is Hawaii’s first public commitment for the incoming class of 2027.
