An excellent race developed through the middle of the pool with Hayden Miller, Abigail McCulloh, and Elle Braun. They were locked in a stroke-for-stroke race through around the 650 mark, then Miller pulled away in a hurry. The 16-year-old came home in a blistering 31.39, getting herself to the wall in under 8:40 for the first time in her career. She dropped nearly 5 seconds with the performance, and blew away the Wave II standard.
McCulloh also got home in a speedy fashion, splitting 31.87 on the final 50, helping to propel her to a new best time as well.
I love that all these swimmers are getting the chance to stand out on the big stage, who may otherwise get lost in the shuffle during normal Olympic trials. This experience and exposure will serve them extremely well 4-8 years from now when they’re the top dogs.
I agree, and it’s fun listening to their interviews as they haven’t been prepped so much. They are more spontaneous than the top dogs.
Great swim, only thing I was doing when I was 16 was watching anime and eating pizza so it fills me with such joy to see people as young as her go fast times AND manage to not crack under pressure. Tough mentality already at the age of 16. Love to see it.
Your parents were definitely proud of you. Trouble free child who at the age of 16 was only ” watching anime and eating pizza” 😀
Great swim indeed that can be measured against more serious benchmarks.
She is overall just a great kid. Congrats!!
