Herasimenia Posts a 54 Second 100 Free to Win on Day 2 of Golden Bear Meet

The 30th International Golden Bear meet continued today in Croatia. The final day of the meet for the women included the 100 free, 50 breast, 400 I.M., 100 back, 200 fly, 400 free, 200 breast, and 50 fly. The men finished the weekend with the 200 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, 50 back, 200 I.M., 50 free, 200 back, and 1500 free.Day 2 highlights:

Women’s Highlights

100 Free

In the first event of the evening, Aliaksandra Herasimenia continued to impress in the sprint events. Her winning time of 54.50 blew away the field. That was her 2nd win of the meet after posting a 24.98 to lead the 50 yesterday.

Theodora Drakou was 2nd in 56.13. Behind her, USC’s Kasia Wilk posted a 56.58 for 3rd.

 

400 Free

Kamila Kunka broke the 4:20 barrier to win the women’s 400 free in a time of 4:18.73. She was more than 10 seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Urša Bežan, who clocked in at 4:35.21. Not far behind her, Dajana Schlegel went 4:35.86 for 3rd.

200 Breast

After winning the 200 I.M. and 100 breast yesterday, Ana Radić grabbed another gold with a 2:33.54 in the 200 breast. Tjaša Pintar posted a 2:35.56, good for second ahead of Paulina Uryga. Uryga clocked in at 2:37.40 for bronze.

50 Fly

Svitlana Khakhlova won the women’s 50 fly in a time of 26.92. She sprinted to the wall fast enough to overcome Aliaksandra Herasimenia by .06. Herasimenia’s 26.98 gave her another top 3 finish for the night. Tess Grossmann was 3rd in 28.50.

 

Men’s Highlights

100 Breast

In the men’s 100 breast, the top 3 were separated by just .19. Panagiotis Samilidis won a tight race in 1:02.41. Lachezar Shumkov was close behind in 1:02.54, while Gabor Financsek was just behind in 1:02.60.

100 Fly

Clocking in at 53.73, Andreas Vazaios was the men’s 100 fly victor. He was the only man to crack 54, as Dinko Jukić was 2nd in 54.38. Mario Todorović swam this race in 54.63 to place 3rd.

200 I.M.

Andreas Vazaios dominated the 200 I.M. from start to finish, clocking in at 2:02.65. Marcin Suzin and Krystian Balabuch battled for 2nd behind him. On the last 50, Suzin took control, grabbing 2nd with a 2:05.39. Balabuch was 3rd in 2:05.63.

50 Free

Odyssefs Meladinis won another sprint event. He took the 100 yesterday, adding a gold in the 50 at 22.63. Mario Todorović earned another top-3 finish, clocking in at 23.09. Ivan Levaj came in 3rd in 23.31.

200 Back

Balog Gabor is closing in on breaking the 2:00 barrier in the 200 back. He won the event at this meet in a time of 2:00.76. He was over 6 seconds ahead of the field, as Teo Kolonić was 2nd in 2:07.05. Ivan Gajšek was the only other swimmer under 2:10. He took 3rd in 2:08.91.
