Hershey's David Nolan Posts More Staggering Times at Mid-Atlantic Senior Champs

Hershey High School senior David Nolan, who we highlighted two weeks ago for breaking 3 National High School Records at the Pennsylvania State meet, was back to burning up the water last weekend. He took his talents to York, PA for the Middle-Atlantic Senior Champs (SCY) meet, and blasted some more awesome times.

On day 1, in back-to-back races, he posted a 54.77 in the 100 breast (his “weak” stroke) and a 46.97 in the 100 fly (which is under the National High School Record, but doesn’t count because he was representing the Hershey Aquatic Club in this meet). Later in the session, he led off the Hershey 800 free relay with a 1:35.48. He took day 2 off, but came back on day 3 to post a 1:42.00 200 back and anchored the Hershey winning medley relay with a 44.62 100 freestyle (on a total time of 3:25, which is in and of itself pretty impressive). Nolan chose not to repeat his primary events, the 100 back and 200 IM, that he impressed so heavily with at the state meet. He instead chose to focus on showing off his versatility and testing himself in off events.

That 100 free split (44.62), which was nowhere near the 42.34 flat-start that he posted last weekend, was the key to his impressive times. This shows that, even a week out, he was way off of the taper that he had at the State meet, and he still put up a time in the 200 back that would have been in the A-final at NCAA’s, and a pair of others that are among the best high school times ever.
