The Pinheiros swim team won top team honors at the Mauricio Bekenn meet in Sao Paolo, Brazil this past weekend. The meet serves as a long course championships for 13-14 swimmers, and each event is divided up in to Infantal1 (born in 2002) and Infantil2 (born in 2001) categories.
On day one, Pedro Carvalho of the Marina Barra Club set a new Brazilian children’s record in the 1500m free, swimming a 16:21.41. That swim was three and a half seconds faster than the old record, Branonn Almeida‘s 16:23.96. Other notable swims include: the Pinheros’s Maria Eduarda Sumida’s 2:24.47 in the 200m back, the Minas’s Victor Angelo Rocha‘s 2:12.55 in the 200m back, and CEPE’s Aricia Peree‘s 9:27.32 in the 1500m free. The Corinthians girls took the 400m free relay with 4:02.04, while the Pinheiros boys won their relay in 3:40.53.
On day two, Rio Branco’s Murilo Sartori lowered his own 200m free children’s record to 1:56.36 (look here to see how he has progressed in the event. He finished over four seconds ahead of the competition. Sofia Garuffi Rondel of Sao Jose broke the 100m fly championship record with 1:03.76. She also won the 200m free in 2:07.63. Other notable swims include Victoria Eduarda Izidro de Moura of the Pinheiros’s 1:06.10 in the 100m back and Leonardo Prado Guatelli of the Pinheiro’s 1:01.00 in the 100m back, Corinthians’s Bruna Monteiro Leme‘s 5:07.57 in the 400m IM, and the Minos’s Pedro Muschioni Cristo’s 4:47.35 in the 400m IM. The Pinheiros took the 200 mixed medley relay in 1:56.91.
On day three, thirteen-year-old Sartori continued his domination with a children’s record in the 100m free (53.23). He took down Eduardo Martiniano’s old children’s record of 54.33 by over a second. He also set a record in the 200 IM with 2:15.25. On the girls’ side Rondel took down another championship record, becoming the first Infantil1 swimmer to go under 59 seconds with 58.29, breaking her own record set in the lead-off of the 400 free relay on day one.
In the end, Sartori was certainly the breakout swimmer of the meet, setting new championship records in the 100m free (53.23), 200m free (1:56.38), 400m free (4:06.94) and 200m IM (2:15.25). He scored 78 points for his team just in individual events.
Sertori 53.23 100 and 200 free LCM are very impressive for a 13years-old.Let’s see how much he will improve in the next years.
