Holloway’s Wolfpack Send 13 to 2014 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

Nine members of the No 18 NC State men’s swimming & diving team, as well as four alternates, have been selected to take part in the 2014 NCAA Championships, to be held from March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.

Simonas Bilis, Ian Bishop, Jonathan Boffa, Stephen Coetzer, Soren Dahl, Christian McCurdy, Barrett Miesfeld, Andreas Schiellerup and David Williams will compete in a combined 17 individual events.

In addition, the Pack will have a team represented in each of the five relays that will be held throughout the week. The squad posted a time among the top five around the country in each relay this season, including the second fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay (1:16.16) and the 200 medley relay (1:23.78).

Scott Johnson, Derek Hren, Matt Thomas and Mike Camper were selected as alternates in relay events.

Bilis, Boffa and Williams will each represent the Wolfpack in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. Bilis owns a time among the top 10 fastest posted in the 50 free, as well as the 100 free. Williams ranks among the top 10 times clocked this season in the 100 free.

In addition, Stephen Coetzer is slated to compete in the 200 individual medley and the 200 back, while Christian McCurdy will swim in the 400 IM and the 200 fly after winning the ACC title in both events.

Senior Ian Bishop will return to his hometown of Austin, Texas for the final meet of his collegiate career, as he will compete in the 100 breaststroke. Barrett Miesfeld will also conclude his Wolfpack career in Austin, as he will swim the 100 butterfly.

Freshmen Andreas Schiellerup and Soren Dahl will each make their first trip to the NCAA Championships. Schiellerup will compete in the 100 backstroke after breaking the school record with a leadoff split in the 400 medley at the ACC Championships of 45.92. Meanwhile, Dahl, who joined the squad in January, will compete in the 100 butterfly.

The NC State women’s swimming & diving team will send eight members to the 2014 NCAA Championships, held March 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minn.
