Host team Mizzou came out with wins in both the men’s and women’s team battles this weekend, winning both meets by big margins. Peyton Palsha (Arkansas), the 500 free winner from earlier in the meet, won the women’s 1650 in 16:21.88. While that time comes in well off her personal best of 16:04.22, it is her 4th fastest performance to date, and her first time under 16:30 in the Fall. Mizzou’s Jack Dubois had a big swim, finishing in 15:05.03 to win the men’s 1650 handily. Dubois has a personal best of 15:00.26, but his swim last night was a full 10 seconds faster than the 15:15 he swam at last year’s Mizzou invite.

Sarah Thompson (Mizzou) continued to have the meet of her life, shredding her previous best time on the way to winning the women’s 200 back. Thompson clocked a 1:52.88, leading a 1-2-3 charge by Mizzou and taking 1.69 seconds off her previous best of 1:54.57. Her best time was from just two weeks ago at the Mizzou quad meet with Kentucky, NC State, and Arkansas. Before this season, Thompson hadn’t swum the 200 back often, with her best time sitting at 2:14.55 from when she was 17. Freshman Meredith Rees was 2nd with a 1:54.48, also a personal best. Jennifer King was 3rd with a 1:55.18, marking a season best.

Jack Dahlgren (Mizzou) won the men’s 200 back, again in a 1-2-3 charge by Mizzou. Dahlgren swam a 1:41.66, marking his fatest Fall performance of his career. Dahlgren’s personal best stands at 1:40.99 from SECs last season. Nick Alexander was 2nd right behind Dahlgren, finishing in 1:41.76. Daniel Hein came in 3rd with a 1:42.62.

Unsurprsingly, Arkansas’ Anna Hopkin dominated in the women’s 100 free, speeding to a 46.56 to tie her lifetime best. That time has Hopkin as the #6 all-time 100 freestyler in the NCAA. Hopkin finished almost 2.5 seconds ahead of the next fastest swimer in the field, Mizzou’s Amy Feddersen (48.97). Hopkin went on to post a blistering 46.20 split on the 2nd leg of the 400 free relay. Kobie Melton led that relay off in 49.35, and Hopkin was followed by Molly Moore (49.01), and freshman Emma Hultquist (50.34). Arkansas finished in 3:14.90, finishing just .02 seconds behind Mizzou, and marking their 2nd fastest time in program history (fastest – 3:14.65, 2019 SECs). Mizzou was led off by Sarah Thompson in 48.15, marking a best time by a full second. Haley hynes was next in, splitting 48.66, with Megan Kell (49.46), and Amy Feddersen (48.61) bringing it home.

Mizzou’s Katrina Brathwaite won the women’s 200 breast in a very tight race, clcoking a 2:10.89. Kayla Jones (Mizzou) was next in at 2:11.04, followed by Arkansas’ Vanessa Herrmann (2:11.09), and Klara Thormalm (2:11.14), marking a spread of .25 seconds between 1st and 4th. Nebraska picked up an event win in the women’s 200 fly, where Madison Coughlen tore to a 1:57.39 to finish first by two seconds. That marked a best time for Coughlen, whose previous best was 1:57.69 fro 2019 Big Tens.

Mikel Schreuders, a Mizzou post grad, won the men’s 100 free with a 43.12, out-touching current Mizzou swimmer Danny Kovac by .07 seconds. Kovac’s time was a personal best until he led off the 400 free relay in 42.90 later in the meet. Giovanny Lima matched Kovac on the relay, diving in next and splitting 42.90, with kyle Leach coming in next (43.00), and Jack Dahlgren anchoring in 41.99. The Tigers finished in 2:50.79.

Mizzou freshman Will Goodwin won the men’s 200 breast with a 1:55.29. With that swim, Goodwin dropped nearly 3 seconds off his best time heading into the meet. Micah Slaton (Mizzou) swam away with the men’s 200 fly, touching in 1:42.30.
