Three time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszu will again compete at the Bergen Swim Festival in Norway in May. The Bergen Swim Festival is held in the memory of Alexander Dale Oen. Dale Oen was a Norwegian star who won his country’s first Olympic Swimming medal in 2008, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke. He died suddenly from a heart attack which was caused by chronic, undetected coronary heart disease on April 30, 2012.
The 2017 Bergen Swim Festival will serve as FINA approved qualification meet for the World Championships in Budapest in July.
Also the Dutch national swim team will compete in Bergen with their stars Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Femke Heemskerk and Jesse Puts. Kromowidjojo won gold in both, the 50m and 100m freestyle, at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and a silver medal in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay. She finished 5th in the 100m freestyle in Rio and 6th in the 50m freestyle. Kromowidjojo is the actual world record holder in the SC 50m freestyle in 23,24.
22-year-old Jesse Puts won the gold medal in the 50m freestyle at the 2016 SC World Championships in Windsor and Femke Heemserk, 29, is one of the best European swimmers in the freestyle events over the last ten years.
Denmark’s backstroke star Mie Nielsen will attend the event in Bergen – she stepped on the podium in Rio with the Danish 4 x 100m medley relay. She will be accompanied by her teammate Viktor Bromer who finished 6th in the 200m butterfly in Rio.
The competition takes place in the Alexander Dale Oen Arena (ADO arena) which was officially opened in October 2014. The venue consists of a 50-meter pool holding Olympic standard, diving facilities, water slides and training pool. In addition the building has a multipurpose hall, cafe and also houses Amalie Skram Videregående Skole (high school).
Is there any information available about the spectacular Hungarian swimmer Boglarka Kapas. Her progress since Olympic Games in London where she was a finalist is impressive as much as Ledecky’s one. She dropped 7.5 sec at 800 winning Olympic medal with very prestigious 8:16. She bettered her 400 by 7.6 sec being just little short of Olympic medal. She is 23 but is already three times Olympian. She is one of Hungarian crown jewels ( I think that is what her name implies 🙂 ). Is she healthy? Haven’t heard of her since Rio and I’ve heard more than enough about Hosszu’s mediocre (with the exception of 200free) performances this year.
Since London 2012 Katie Ledecky has dropped 4.93 s in the 200 free, 7.88 s in the 400 free and 9.84 s in the 800 free.
And it’s more impressive in my opinion to go from 8.14 to 8.04 than to go from 8.23 to 8.16.
Having said that, I agree that Kapas’ progression has been huge since last year and that she should be the second favorite at home next summer from the 400 free to the 1500 free.

I wasn’t trying to compare Katie Ledecky and Boglarka Kapas. I was just wondering why such a huge improvement in the personal bests at elite level went practically unnoticed by media. And we are not dealing with the puberty of very young girl, but already well established world class swimmer.
BTW her 200 free was improved by almost 3sec since 2012. Her range from 1:57 at 200 through 15:47 at 1500 is matched by few swimmers only. She doesn’t have world records in her name like Katinka Hosszu has. And never will (we know why). But in my opinion her star is brighter than one of Katinka.
“And never will (we know why).” – How old are you exactly? Because this prediction makes me think that you haven’t been following sports in general that much..

If Boglarka Kapas goes under 8 min or under 15:20 I will be drunk celebrating week long and then in sober mind go to the church to thanks God for such a gift to Human Race.
She is training in Fort Lauderdale at the moment. No one knows if she is scheduled for any forthcoming meet.
My personal opinion is that she is poorly managed in all possible terms by the same guys as Daniel Gyurta.
