World Record holder Katinka Hosszu put on a dominating performance in the 400 IM final at the 2017 FINA World Championships in front of the home crowd. Hosszu was hanging with her World Record pace through the front half, touching less than a half second shy of it after the backstroke leg. She fell off the pace through the breaststroke leg, but still charged body lengths ahead of the field into the finish, hitting the wall in a new Championship Record time of 4:29.33 to win it.
Hosszu’s time was the 4th fastest performance in history and took nearly a full second off her former Championship Record time of 4:30.31 from the 2009 World Championships. The only times she’s ever swum faster than she did today were in the prelims (4:28.58) and finals (4:26.36) of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Hosszu now owns 7 of the 10 fastest 400 IM performances in history and remains the fastest performer of all time.
