Hosszu Takes Four Events on the First Day of the Golden Tour Camille Muffat

On the first day of the first stop on the FFN Golden Tour Camille Muffat Hungarian Katinka Hosszu put herself securely in the lead for the stage’s top prize of 5,000 euro. Hosszu started off the evening by taking gold in the 800 freestyle, by almost 10 second, hitting the wall in a time of 8:39.89. She followed that up with wins in the 1500 freestyle and 400 IM in the same session.

Hosszu took the 1500 freestyle in a time of 16:55.85, winning the event by over a minute and the 400 IM in a time of 4:39.86.

She then went on to win 50 backstroke touching in a time of 28.52, 43 one-hundredths of second off her season’s best of 27.99.

Lara Grangeon of France finished second in the 800 freestyle in a time of 8:49.65 followed by French teammate Alizee Morel who posted a 8:50.37.

Theodora Drakou of Greece took the silver in the 50 backstroke recording a 28.68 followed by Mathilde Cini of France who grabbed the bronze in a time of 28.86.

Frenchmen Damien Joly and Florent Manaudou were the only two athletes to put up a times that sits in the world’s top five. Joly won the 800 freestyle in a time of 7:56.78 placing him fourth in the world rankings.

Fellow Frenchmen Joris Bouchaut (8:02.28) and Paul Baracud (8:09.00) who finished second and third.

Joly also won the 1500 freestyle in a time of 15:20.54.

Manaudou, who won the 50 butterfly at the World Championships, took the same event today in Nice recording a time of 23.44 which puts him fourth in the world rankings.

He was followed by Frédérick Bousquet who finished in a time of 23.94 and Mehdy Metella who posted a 24.18.

World Champion Camille Laourt of France took the men’s 50 backstroke posting a time of 25.29, seven one-hundredths of a second off his season’s best of 25.22. At last year’s stop in Nice Lacourt recorded a time of 24.89. Ben Stasiulis finished second in a time of 25.74 followed by Andreas Vazaios who hit the wall in a time of 26.04.

Charlotte Bonnet of France won the women’s 50 breaststroke in a time of 32.16 followed by Adeline Williams who touched in a time of 32.41. Fanny Deberghes finished third posting a time of 32.68.

Samilidis Panagiotis of Greece took the men’s 50 breaststroke in a time of 28.27. Frenchman Giacomo Perez Dortona picked up the silver in a time of 28.29 followed by 200 breaststroke world champion Marco Koch of Germany who recorded a 28.32.

Melanie Henique of France won the women’s 50 butterfly in a time of 26.18 which places her eighth in the world rankings. She was followed by Canadian Katerine Savard who touched in a time of 26.46 and Anna Santamans who finished in a time of 26.68.

Hungarian David Verraszto won the men’s 400 IM in a time of 4:18.18 followed by German Philip Heintz who finished second in a time of 4:20.51.

Hosszu’s 1500 time is more like a warm-down or a work set. 6 seconds/100 meter slower than the WR.

Great idea to put on the same day the 800 free and the 1500 free! 😆
And in a row!
Only Katie Ledecky can love that!

Or Katinka Hosszu….
In about one hour she won the 800 free in 8.39, then the 1500 free in 16.55 and finally the 400 IM in . . . 4.39!
