Hosszu’s $325K, Van der Burgh’s $262K Lead Final 2015 World Cup Money Lists

Katinka Hosszu and Cameron van der Burgh each nabbed the $100,000 checks for winning the 2015 FINA World Cup series, pushing their totals to $325,000 and $262,000, respectively, for the season.

That makes them the series money-earning leaders.

For Hosszu, that’s a slight step down from the $389,000 she hauled in last year. The difference, though, is that last season Hosszu broke 5 world records for $10,000 apiece. With the World Cup changing its format to long course this year, those world record bonuses were much more difficult to attain, and Hosszu’s earnings dropped by $64,000 – just a tick more than she made in world record bonuses last year.

On the men’s side, van der Burgh leads with $262,000, with big earnings in all three clusters. 2014 series champ Chad le Clos also cracked six figures, earning $105,500.

Australia’s Emily Seebohm was the other swimmer to break $100,000. She earned $188,000, third-most overall. Two swimmers were right on the cusp of that barrier: Hungary’s Zsuszanna Jakabos hauled in $99,500, and red-hot Australian backstroker Mitch Larkin made $92,250 all in the third cluster alone after not swimming the two opening sets of meets.

In all, the series gave away just over $2 million in 2015.

Chad Le Clos’ 100 fly is looking super quick for this time of year. He looks like he will be going sub 50 next year. Come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough!

Now that the Hanging Chad crowd are not here – I agree. Chad the Laaad is looking smoothly fast. You just know there is a lot more there .

Never thought I’d see the day where swimmers (a few of them, anyway) make money like this. It’s fantastic! Hopefully more to come. Thank you Mr. Phelps!
