HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving team will host their annual intra-squad Red & White Meet Friday, giving Cougar fans their first chance to watch the team compete at home. The scrimmage begins at 2:30 p.m. CT inside the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
Houston is coming off a third place finish at the North Texas Relays Oct. 2, where the team recorded 11 podium finishes.
The Cougars tallied five second place finishes at North Texas, including taking second in both diving events. In the 1-meter, Micaela Bouter and Danielle Shedd netted a score of 441.00, and in the 3-meter, Bouter and 2015 American Athletic Conference Diver of the Year Taylor Olanski finished with a score of 440.00.
The squad also captured second in the 300-Yard Backstroke Relay at North Texas, with a time of 2:53.31 from the team of Doroteja Bednjanec, Jasmine Williams and newcomer Eleanna Koutsouveli. The team of newcomers Delia Weber, Hannah Herbst and Conor Glenn placed second in the 1,500-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 15:32.05, and Houston also captured second in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay with the team of Bednjanec, Emma Moore, Michaela Hamrick and newcomer Julie Gibson netting a time of 3:35.73.
Friday’s Red & White Meet is free to the public and first chance Cougar fans will have to watch head coach Ryan Wochomurka’s team compete at home this season. While the Cougars will split into two teams and compete against each other, official times will not be kept.
UP NEXT FOR THE COUGARS
Houston will compete at the Rice Invitational, to be held Oct. 23-24. The two-day invitational begins Friday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. CT at the Rice Competition Pool, and the Cougars will compete against Rice, Incarnate Word and Arkansas.
COUGARS TO HOST AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Houston will host the American Athletic Conference Championships for the first time as the best swimmers and divers in the league visit the CRWC from Feb. 17-20, 2016. Following the conference meet, the Cougars will look to close the season at the NCAA Championships, to be held March 17-19, 2016 in Atlanta.
