How Fast Will Leon Marchand Swim at French Trials?

2023 FRENCH ELITE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Leon Marchand will be back in the pool at the French Elite Championships (world Trials) starting on Sunday, June 11. He’s slated to swim the 200 breast, free, fly, IM, and 400 IM (in that order, one each day). After we saw what Regan Smith did coming off of a Bob Bowman altitude training camp, what do you think Leon will do?

I’m not sure if it works, but they’re announcing the live finals tonight at 5:50 pm on “Sport en France” (200m breaststroke at 6:55 pm), or pay-per-view on bein’sport, which should normally have the exclusivity (?). Alternatively, live coverage without video (results only) on the FFN website.

I think that means 2:06 in finals.

Me too. At the NCAAs, he gained 3 seconds on his prelims time. So: 2’9.88 in the prelims, he should swim around 2’6.50 in the final and maybe better if he’s in top form…

He was 1:47 on the French relay last summer. He’s not that kind of freestyler in LC.

I don’t see Marchand being in peak race form at the French Trials. He doesn’t have much competition in his best events in his home country. Betting he will be around where he’s been during mid-season meets which is fast but not jaw dropping.

Predictions
200 breast 2:06low
200 free 1:45high
200 fly 1:52mid
200 IM 1:55low or 1:54high
400 IM 4:04mid
100 fly 51low
The 2 IM prediction might be controversial but he has improved dramatically in backstroke and freestyle which makes me think he will have more speed this summer than last
Bold Prediction: Marchand goes after Milak
At worlds, not saying he wins but he will give him a good race

If there was ever a chance to catch Milak, it appears to be now. His training after Hun Nats was apparently lackluster, whatever that means (it might mean nothing, and Worlds is also more than a month away). We shall see.

That’s not what Léon Marchand said: “the last month of training was perfect, i think i’ve made a lot of progress and i’m feeling great before starting the French trials, i’m going to try to beat all my best times in each race (200 breaststroke, free, fly, 200 and 400 IM, and 100fly on the last day).

SnailSpace was saying that Milak’s training was lacklustre, not Leon’s. You’re getting confused.

Sorry, I had misunderstood… but even with a lackluster training for Milak, i would be surprised to see Léon (despite his progress in fly) beat Milak. At least this year.

Agreed he goes after milak, just like when Phelps went after Thorpe in the 200m free in Athens
