How to Swim the 100 Medley Relay in an Empty Pool

The groomsmen at the Pete Burgham wedding, as they were counting the minutes toward the nuptials, saw a pool, and as former swimmers knew exactly what they needed to do.

Primarily members of the Chester Swim Club in England from back in the 90’s, the men jumped in for a to-the-finish, to-the-death 100 yard medley relay at the Victoria Baths in Manchester.

Of course, there was no water in the pool, so they didn’t have to worry about mussing their tuxedos before the big event, and it appears as though no egos were too badly mussed either.

The baths first opened in 1906 but closed in 1993, until receiving £3.4million of funding by way of public vote in the first series of the television show Restoration to be revitalized.

The pool, being so old, is actually 25 yards long, as compared to all modern pools that would be built in the UK which would be at least 25 meters long. The restoration project at the beautiful building is a work-in-progress, with hopes to one day reopen the pool to the public.

That was great. Yes, we swimmers are a little nuts! Hope the bride is a swimmer, so she too will have CBD (chlorine brain damage) so this will seem normal to her. Thanks for posting this!

I would imagine a few beverages to calm the nerves had a little bit to do with their decision to hold this competition (as well as their poor performance)! 😉
