The 2023 Asian Games will see swimming action kicking off this morning from Hangzhou, China with prelims of the women’s 200m fly, men’s 200m IM, men’s 100m free, women’s 50m breast, men’s 100m back, women’s 1500m free and women’s 4x100m free relay events on the agenda.
The good news is that viewers in Asia nations are able to tune in live via the following outlets:
- CCTV in China
- TBS in Japan
- Sony LIV (Sony Sports Network) in India
- MediaCorp Channel 5 and mewatch.sg in Singapore
- MNCTV, RCTI, iNews TV, and Vision+ in Indonesia
- KBS, MBC, SBS, and TV Chosun in the Republic of Korea
- OneSports in Philippines
- RTM and Astro in Malaysia
The bad news is that there is no official U.S. broadcaster, which means using a virtual private network (VPN) may be the only avenue for catching action from Hangzhou this week.
We’ll be providing recaps on the latest action from prelims and finals as well as notable swims and storylines as the action unfolds throughout the week.
Mongolian swimmer made the final of the Women’s 200 Free with a national record 2:00.89. If there was ever somebody for a coach to take a shot at bringing to the US or Europe for training, that would be a fun one. Considering her recent results are all in Asia I assume she is still based there.
Looks like she trains at the World Aquatics development centre in Thailand.
22.24. back in the game (somewhat)
Much better than the heats. Hope he has something left in the tank for today – even if not for a medal, just to do himself proud
the Teong of 2022 would have been a medal favorite
Whatever that’s preventing him from getting back to that form, I hope he overcomes it.
Qin just swam a 58.35 in the heats. holy moly
His 50m split (27.04) itself is a Games Record….wow
Wow Ji Yuchan with a 21.84. Should now be considered the nominal favorite
Why is there no recal
Because Swimswam doesn’t think Asian Games is important lol
Wang shun should drop the 400IM for paris and let the upcoming chinese youngsters handle that.
Zhang Zhanshuo will probably be faster than Wang in the 400 by next year
ice -> Philippines with Kayla Sanchez and the overall improvement of other swimmers has pretty much signaled the end of Singapore’s women’s 4x100m free regional dominance, ya think?
If Jasmine Alkhaldi clocked her SEA Games relay split today they would have finished ahead of us.
I was expecting them to lose today already, but kudos to the veterans Ting Wen and Amanda for stepping up today. Yes, end of 2 decades of dominance upcoming. 2025 SEAG would be the worst for us in relays (both men and women combined) since a long long while. And yes, I’m a pessimist at heart and I dont see any new swimmers coming up which is the key issue.
Actually I feel based on times this year, there is quite a good number of up and coming swimmers already. The next important step would be to get them to (or near) the level of Ting, Zheng, Amanda etc because they can’t be there forever. So yea, I agree that if we don’t, our relays will take a big hit.
wow sick! the man’s officially in the big leagues
Ardi also on fire, 1:49.21. good stuff
Womens’ sprint is in trouble because Amanda and Ting have held the fort for decades; and no one is appearing to be up and coming. Its so unfortunate that Cherlyn Yeoh is actually in Hangzhou (supporting Jon) but not swimming. Can someone just push her into the pool. Everyone from Marina to even Gan Ching Hwee, Ashley Lim and even Letitia Sim can swim 57s but no one is proving capable of dropping. Even Christie Chue, once a 55s swimmer has gone to the 57s.
The mens’ relay though, I was pleasantly very surprised at the timing and the splits. Glen Lim was being himself, but boy did Ardi Azman and debutante Jerald Lium step up big time. Let’s… Read more »
