EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14, 2023) – Howard University women’s swimming & diving team picked up its first win of the season, topping Mount St. Mary’s, 156-62, at Emmitsburg, Md.

Junior Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) led the way with a pair of victories in the 100-meter Free (58.26) and 200-meter Free (2:09.91).

In the 400-meter Free Relay, junior Kelsey Roberson (West Orange, N.J.), sophomore Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and rookies Chanice Posada (Houston) and Jasmine Morgan (Chicago) took home gold with a 4:01.69 time.

Nwaeze, Roberson and Posada also won individually in the 800-meter Free (9:46.00), 50-meter Free (27.32) and 100-meter Fly (1:06.21), respectively.

Seniors Alana Josey (York, Pa.) and Michaela Spears (Chicago) earning first place in the 400-meter IM (5:11.10) and 100-meter Back (1:15.25), respectively.

Other noteworthy performances included sophomore Skylar Debnam (Chandler, Ariz.) winning the 400-meter Free (4:39.79) and newcomer Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) claiming gold in the 100-meter Back (1:06.48).

On the board, third-year Bison Jordynn Connell (Flower Mound, Texas) placed first in the 1-meter dive with a 190.30 score.

On Oct. 27, Howard returns home to face American. Meet time is set for 6 p.m., inside Burr Gym Pool.

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14, 2023) – Howard University men’s swimming & diving team cruised past Mount St. Mary’s, 161-59, for its first win of the season at Emmitsburg, Md.

Third-year Bison Tai Afrik (Holland, Mich.) led HU with a pair of individual victories in the 100-meter Free (52.73) and 200-meter Free (1:57.77).

Afrik, along with graduate Arion Solomon (Fairburn, Ga.), senior Tristan Stevens (Chicago) and newcomer Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) took home gold in the 400-meter Free Relay, clocking in at 3:30.65.

Solomon and Stevens also won the 100-meter Fly (57.50) and 100-meter Back (58.04), respectively.

Green, Solomon, Stevens and senior Mark-Anthony Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) represented HU in the 400-meter Medley Relay, topping the event with a 3:49.15 mark.

Sophomore Ty Triche (Humble, Texas) claimed a pair of wins in the 400-meter Free (4:20.09) and 800-meter Free (9:03.81).

Other notable performances include graduate Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) winning the 400-meter IM (4:47.09) and second-year Bison Taj Benton (Baltimore) earning first in the 50-meter Free (23.83).

On the board, junior Jordan Walker (San Antonio) finished first in the 1-meter dive with a 239.10 score.

On Oct. 27, Howard returns home to face American. Meet time is set for 6 p.m., inside Burr Gym Pool.

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14th, 2023) – Mount St. Mary’s swim and dive hosted the Howard Bison this afternoon in a dual meet. The men’s team lost 161-59, while the women’s team fell 156-62.

Timmy Bonner and Jessalyn Powell represented the Mountaineers in the 1-meter diving competition to kick off the day. Bonner finished in second place with a score of 171.2, while Powell finished in third with a score of 121.5.

A quiet day for the Mountaineers as they tallied just two event wins on the day. The women opened the day with a 400-meter medley relay win, notching a time of 4:26.46. The 400-medley swam by Hanna AggenChristina LazariMaddy Samuels, and Abigail Steckiel stands to be a record setting time in a meter pool in school history. The men found a first-place finish when Aidan Grady won the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:03.32.

Mount St. Mary’s swimming and diving teams are at Messiah next weekend, Saturday, October 21st starting at 1 p.m.
