Dear Katrina, I want to be a champion like Michael Phelps and Natalie Coughlin. How do they keep being so successful?
We are blessed to watch such fine athletes as Michael and Natalie, and in many ways, they both are great role models. I want you to realize that you are capable of being successful too, even if it does not mean an Olympic gold medal.
Many things make up a successful person. Here is a simple exercise that you can try, to stay focused on what inspires you, and to realize that you are capable of realizing your dreams, and feeling good about yourself, too.
Get into a comfortable position, maybe lying down, and breathing (make sure you exhale and let your body go deeper as you let it relax). Ask yourself whom you really admire. Ask yourself: what are the characteristics that you are attracted to in this person. What is it about them that you admire? Now pretend that you became this person. How do you feel inside their body? Do you have a big smile on your face thinking about this? What would you change in order to feel even more confident, great, successful, or happy?
Now, realize that YOU have these characteristics in you, too. After all, you just created them! Yes, we can think that someone else must have some super human qualities that we don’t have, but they have just harnessed their vision of what they want to create for themselves. They then have focused and committed to it enough that they make their vision a reality.
It can be scary to compare yourself to someone whom you admire. Your mind might try to convince you that you are not allowed to realize that power inside yourself. But guess what, it is in you, too.
To take this further, Chapter Four in Be Your Best Without the Stress, gives you more steps to claim your power and start living like a champion.
Katrina’s new book, Be Your Best Without the Stress is now a national bestseller. Thank you to all of you who have bought it already!

You are welcome. Keep up the great work.
Trina does a great job of explaining the mental process in simple easy to understand terms. You can tell that “she has been there and done that.” Her book is excellent. We all agree that swimming is 80% mental and 20% physical. This book is a great way to work on the 80%.
