SEATTLE – The Idaho swim team won 13 of 14 events en route to a 218-56 win over Seattle U on the road on Saturday morning.
The Vandals were nearly perfect to pick up their fifth win overall and third conference victory, earning top finishes in every event besides one.
Saturday’s score of 218 marked the best result over a Division l opponent for an Idaho team since Nov. 3, 2018 versus Seattle U (251-41).
Seven different Idaho swimmers recorded event wins, including a team-high three victories for freshman Ginger Kiefer.
Idaho opened the meet with a strong outing in the 200 medley relay as the squad of Kiefer, Haily Oldham, Grace Ruble and Ella Haskins swam their way to a first-place finish in 1:47.03 to beat out the field by two seconds and tack on 11 points to the Vandals’ team score.
Freshman Ava Langston was a first-place finisher in the 1000 free, posting a time of 10:52.09 while her teammate Zoe Froh followed in second.
The Vandals went 1-2-3 in the 200 free with Kiefer earning her first victory of the day in 1:55.75, while Ruble finished runner-up and Sydney Heasman rounded out the podium sweep for Idaho.
Freshman Katy Foley made it four straight wins for the Vandals after going 59.31 in the 100 back. Teammates Catherine Hyde and Maddie Timm didn’t follow too far behind en route to second (1:00.13) and third-place finishes (1:00.26), respectively.
The 200 butterfly saw Idaho’s senior Bindi Pedersen finish in the top spot (2:10.75), while Gracie Maryschak (second, 2:13.13) and Amelia Buyers (third, 2:13.89) helped capture a sweep for the Vandals.
Haskins made it back-to-back wins for Idaho in the 50 and 100 free, tacking on 18 total points for the away team.
In the next race, Foley earned her second individual victory of the morning in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.79
Sophomore Cadence Gabel and Bella Maclean-Cariello led Idaho with a 1-2 finish in the 200 breast, as Gabel clocked in at 1:52.55 and Maclean-Cariello followed closely behind in 1:52.69.
The Vandals recorded their fourth sweep of the day in the 500 free, with Kiefer (5:05.42), Buyers (5:22.92) and Langston (5:26.74) taking the top three spots.
The next race featured Ruble capturing her second victory of the day in the 100 butterfly, clocking in a time of 57.61 and adding nine points to the scoreboard.
Kiefer ended her incredible day by posting a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.48. Ruble finished runner-up (2:09.67) to also complete a strong performance in the pool.
It was Idaho earning its ninth consecutive win to cap off their dominant win over Seattle U, as the 200 free relay team of Heasman, Madelynn Butler, Rylie Jones and Haskins finished in 1:37.42 to earn the top spot.
