The Greater Spartanburg YMCA wrapped up YMCA Summer Nationals by taking the combined and boy’s titles while the Greater Somerset YMCA claimed the girl’s.
17-year-old Erica Maltsev knocked 6 seconds off of her PB in the 400 IM, winning in a time of 4:53.72 to lead 3 victories for the Greater Somerset YMCA.
Despite being one of the youngest swimmers at the meet, 13-year-old Cullen Cashman finished 13th in the 200 breast with a new New England Record of 2:24.58.
The 14-year old is Schroeder YMCA’s latest backstroke star, winning all three distances of the stroke at Wisconsin’s 11-14 Age Group State Champs.
Boise YMCA 18-year-old Milo Shue posted a huge time drop in the 50 freestyle to top the podium against a pair of high-profile prospects from Swim Neptune.
Whitfield’s 50 free win was his third individual title of this meet, and also made him the third-fastest 50 freestyler in the high school class of 2023.
In addition to the 100 backstroke, this morning’s prelims at Y Nats featured the 400 IM, 200 freestyle, and 200 medley relay.
Diehl (above) won the 200 back by over two seconds. Brendan Whitfield dropped 2.93 seconds off his PB to win the boys 100 fly in a 46.26.
