Italian IMer Ilaria Cusinato has announced her withdrawal from the inaugural year of the International Swimming League.
Cusinato made the announcement on her coach Shane Tusup‘s YouTube account in a short video, which you can see here.
“Unfortunately, I have to pull out of the ISL,” Cusinato says, citing major life changes over the past few months. “My life now is completely different. Me and Shane decided to get a completely new schedule of training and races.”
Cusinato originally joined Italy’s Aqua Centurions roster in early June. But after a disappointing summer plagued by some health issues, Cusinato switched coaches, joining up with Tusup in August. With the change in coaches and competition/training program, Cusinato says in her video that she needs more time to adjust before knowing if she’ll be ready to compete during the ISL season.
“I love the idea of the ISL,” Cusinato says. “But, unfortunately, it’s bad timing for me.
“I think that I need more time… to get used to the new training, to feel better in the water.”
Update: in the video, Cusinato says her participation on the World Cup series is not yet confirmed, not in the ISL.
In light of your update, you should change the title, too.
It is a big gamble to submit to being instrument of Tusup’s revenge against Katinka. Even if Katinka fails in her attempt to win golds in 2020, there are others who she needs to overcome to win the 400 IM. Obsessed Tusup may push her beyond the breaking point, resulting in failure for her and Tusup. It would have been so much better, more professional if she and Tusup put in 110% effort to win without shooting off the mouth, guaranteeing that she would win 400 IM in 2020. Why?
Basic tenet of coaching: challenge don’t annihilate. There’s only one Iron Lady, and Mr. Long Ball is finding that out.
Just like freshman year of college in NCAAs. She needs to be on the 5 year plan for this to work
I actually did say that my participation in the world cup is not confirmed yet, not the one in the ISL. You misunderstood
