Illinois State Champion Ty Spillane Verbally Commits to Mizzou for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ty Spillane, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Sugar Grove, Illinois, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Missouri for 2021-22. He will join Indiana’s Cade Oliver in the class of 2025.

“Extremely blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Missouri! I’d like to thank my coaches, teammates, teachers, friends and parents for the endless support. I am super excited to be a part of such a great family! Go tigers🐯!!! #zoustyle”

Spillane is a junior at Marmion Academy. He recently placed 3rd in the 100 breast (54.99) at the 2020 IHSA Boys’ State Swimming and Diving Championships. He also swam breast (24.57) on the 10th-place 200 medley relay and came in 16th in the 200 IM (only 12 make finals in Illinois). In club swimming, where he represents Academy Bullets Swim Club, Spillane won the 200 breast at the 2020 Illinois Swimming Senior Short Course Championships in March. His 2:02.63 was a lifetime best and an improvement of over 5 seconds from the same meet in 2019. He also came within .01 of his PB in the 50 free, going 22.18 to beat his 2019 time by 1.14 seconds. Last summer, Spillane competed at NCSA Summer Championship in the 50 breast (8th), 100 breast (28th), 200 breast, and 200 IM.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 breast – 25.89
  • 100 breast – 54.99
  • 200 breast – 2:02.63
  • 200 IM – 1:54.07
  • 50 free – 22.17
  • 100 free – 50.49
  • 100 fly – 52.66

It took 54.35/1:57.97 to final in the breaststroke events at 2020 SEC Championships. Spillane will overlap with Mizzou’s top scorers, Danny Kovac (10th in the 100 breast) and freshman Will Goodwin (8th in the 200 breast).
