IM and Butterfly Swimmer Maura Beltrami to Swim for D1 Merrimack College

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maura Beltrami, a high school senior from Prospect, Connecticut, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for Division 1 Merrimack College for the 2023-24 season.

“i’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the division 1 level at merrimack college! I want to thank my coaches, teammates, friends, and family who have supported me along the way! #gowarriors”

Beltrami swims club for Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club (CDOG Swim Club). At the Connecticut Senior Championship in February, Beltrami competed in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 200 IM. Her highest ranked swim of the weekend was in the 200 fly, where she swam a season best time of 2:16.94 in finals to place 26th.

At the high school level, Beltrami swims for Woodland Regional High School located in Beacon Falls, Connecticut. At the 2022 Connecticut Girls High School State Championships, Beltrami was a member of Woodland’s 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams. She split a 57.87 on the 15th place 400 freestyle relay, and swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay in 28.13 seconds (17th place).

Top Times (SCY):

  • 100 fly- 1:01.31
  • 200 fly- 2:16.03
  • 200 IM- 2:22.45
  • 400 IM- 5:00.67

At the 2023 Northeast Conference Championships, Merrimack College women finished 8th. Top performers for Merrimack included sprinter Kendra Daily and freestyler Neva Sa. Daily had three top 16 finishes for Merrimack at conference, placing 7th in the 100 back (58.04), 10th in the 50 free (24.09), and 15th in the 100 free (53.37). Sa also had three top 16 swims that same weekend, earning 10th in the 500 free (5:04.99), 11th in the 1650 free (17:59.19), and 14th in the 200 free (1:55.23).

Although Beltrami’s current times would have been out of scoring position at the Northeast Conference Championships this season, Beltrami adds depth to the Merrimack roster in the butterfly and IM events. Her 200 fly time of 2:16.03 would rank her second on the Merrimack team this season. Beltrami’s 100 fly and 400 IM times both would put her 3rd overall on Merrimack for the 2022-23 season, making her a valuable addition for the dual meet season.

Beltrami joins a 2023 Merrimack women’s recruiting class consisting of Chloe Morris, Emma McCarthy, and Mia Burns. McCarthy will likely be a key factor in Merrimack breaststroke next season. Her 1:06.30 100 breaststroke would have been the fastest on the team this season by over three seconds.
