Elizabeth Merriman of the Dexter Community Aquatics Club will join the University of Kentucky Wildcats next fall. The senior at Dexter High School in Dexter, MI, was a two-time finalist at the 2014-15 Michigan Girls Division 2 State Championships, with a sixth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.99) and an eighth place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:08.99).
After visiting the University of Kentucky, Merriman said, “Kentucky seemed like the right place for me. I loved the people and the facilities.”
Merriman’s best times:
- 100-yard breaststroke: 1:04.99
- 200-yard breaststroke: 2:27.96
- 200-yard IM: 2:08.99
- 400-yard IM: 4:39.77
Merriman has two brothers, one younger brother and one older brother. Her older brother, Max, plays Division I water polo at Loyola Marymount, and both of her parents also played sports in college.
She says that her senior year goal is to break her high school’s varsity record in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard breaststroke as well as help get her team get the trophy at 2015-16 state championships. Merriman will join backstroker Ali Galyer, breaststroker Madison Winstead and 19-th ranked recruit Asia Seidt in the Wildcats class of 2020.
