January 13th, 2012 National

Briefly out of the Thursday morning/afternoon flights of the 2012 Austin Grand Prix, two of the latest generation of comeback kids, Anthony Ervin and Janet Evans, both earned 2nd swims.

Ervin will be the 6th seed headed into finals, with a prelims swim of 50.04 from the “B” Flights of the event. That makes him the 5th-best American, as well, with top finisher Gideon Louw of South Africa swimming a 49.21.

Meanwhile, in the “B-Flight” of the women’s 400 free, Janet Evans at 40 years old has qualified for the Olympic Trials, with her morning swim of 4:17.27 in the 400 free. That time placed her 15th overall in the prelims, and will place her in the B-Final (along with the likes of National Teamers Kate Ziegler and Cammile Adams) and That kicks off at 6PM Central Time (Local Austin time).

It will be interesting to see how both swimmers come back in the finals. From what we’ve seen with most of the Australian comeback swimmers (Thorpe, Klim, Trickett) is difficulty coming back in evening sessions as well as they’ve swum in the morning.

A full recap to come after tonight’s finals.

Live results here.
