The Hoosiers men and women both took the victory over the Badgers for the second straight year. The men won 184-116 and the women won 182-118 in the LCM dual meet hosted by Indiana.
Women’s Meet
Indiana started the meet with a DQ from the A relay in the first relay but had the depth throughout the meet to make up for the lost points. The Badgers team of Jessica Unicomb, Anna Meinholz, Dana Grindall and Chase Kinney finished the 200m medley relay in a time of 1:54.92, 5 seconds of the Hoosiers B team (1:59.24) and the Badgers B team (1:59.45). The Badgers went on to claim the second event, with Danielle Valley finishing the 800m free in 8:54.85.
Both Grindall and Kinney went on to earn first place points of the Badgers. Grindall touched first in the 200m fly (2:17.44) and Kinney took the victory in both the 50m and 100m free in times of 25.52 and 56.94 respectively.
The Hoosiers finished 1-2-3 in the 200m free, with senior Haley Lips touching first in 2:05.07, Stephanie Marchuk finishing in 2:07.40 and Kaitlin Kitchens finishing in 2:07.87.
Sophomore Kennedy Goss was a triple individual winner in the 100m (1:02.56) and 200m (2:17.71) backstroke and the 400m free (4:20.68). She also helped lead the Hoosiers to a victory in the 400m free relay (3:51.49), with teammates Kitchens, Lips and Gabi Rajic.
Miranda Tucker and diver Lacey Houser were both Indiana double winners, with Tucker winning the 200m breast (2:32.41) and 200m IM (2:21.17) and Houser winning on both the 1m (325.13) and 3m (362.25) boards. Other outstanding swims from the Hoosiers came from breaststroker Lily King, who won the 100m breast in 1:10.08 and teammate Gia Dalesandro who won the 100m fly in 1:02.11.
Men’s Meet
The Hoosiers won 12 of 16 events, starting off the meet with Bob Glover, Tanner Kurz, Max Irwin and Ali Khalafalla winning the 200m medley relay (1:42.49), 2 seconds ahead of 2nd place finishers Badgers A team (1:44.71).
Freestyler Matthew Hutchins earned a pair of first place points for the Badgers in the 800m (8:13.04) and 400m free (3:59.28). His teammates Austin Byrd and Harrison Tran both took victories in the 200m backstroke (2:07.68) and 100m butterfly (55.92) respectively.
Kurz went on to win both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events in times of 1:04.84 and 2:22.66 respectively. Irwin finished the 200m fly (2:04.96), 3 seconds ahed of the rest of the field, but fell short in the 100m fly, finishing 2nd (55.92) behind Tran. Teammate Glover won the 100m back (56.90) but could not hold off the Badgers in the 200m.
Other point earners for the Hoosiers include freestylers Anze Tavcar, Khalafalla and Blake Pieroni who won the 200m free (1:52.41) the 50m free (22.81) and the 100m free (50.98) respectively. The Hoosiers also earned valuable points in the 200m IM, with Brandon Colonis finishing in 2:11.06, half a second ahead of Wisconsin’s Todd McCarthy (2:11.67).
The final relay was dominated by the Hoosiers, with the A team of Pieroni, Tavcar, Oliver Patrouch and Khalafalla touching in 3:26.13, ahead of the Badgers A team (3:26.49) and Indiana’a B team (3:34.08).
